I used to think self-sabotage was like a monster that came out from under the bed and took over my body. 8 pm would roll around, and I would suddenly become afraid of the peanut M&M’s in the pantry, the moose track’s ice cream in the freezer, or the leftovers in the refrigerator because I would suddenly have zero control over my actions. It was a compulsion, and I couldn’t stop eating even if I wanted to because this scary monster was controlling me.
